Using Self Storage While Moving
By Drew Mers
Imagine yourself in this scenario, you have just bought a new house but you are worried about bringing along some of your most prized possessions. Moving and storage is a very tedious chore especially for first-timers. Some homeowners can be even so cautious to the point that they will insure every valuable thing they own, in the event of a calamity. But even insurance will not restore those broken sculptures, smashed paintings and other valuables, so you may also need to find a better alternative in securing these valuables you own. Below are some of the most important guidelines on how to keep your things secure through storage facilities the day you decide to move to a new place:
Probably the most popular choice a storage facility manager would recommend is the use of blankets; these are very handy when you will be packing vases, jars, sculpture and
your other fragile valuables. The quilted types will generally work better than basic cotton linen, although you need to be careful not to soil these blankets if you intend to use them in your bedroom later. You do not need to worry if you do not have the appropriate type of linen because some self-storage facilities offer these safety blankets as a part of their basic package.
Of course, the liabilities toward the safe storage and transportation of your belongings will always be on the shoulders of the moving and storage people you hire, more so if you have finalized an agreement before hand. Be conscious of the things you would be be bringing along.
You should not forget to keep a running tab of every valuable thing you own and its present condition for this may save you a lot of money in case an unwanted incident happens in the future. You may also need to check for minor scratches, bumps and other damages upon you arrive at your new home. For a minimum fee, some self-storage facilities would offer to help you pack your things. Do not hesitate to ask for help from these experts. They have a wide expanse of knowledge regarding proper storage and transportation. The more they contribute, the lesser the chances your valuables will get damaged. Also, always keep in mind that you have the choice to bring only the things you need as you need them and keep the rest of your valuables in a self-storage unit. Moving can be a really stressful activity and these self-storage facilities will at least lighten your burden.
